Advent officially begins two Sundays after Thanksgiving. However, in the United States, it begins customarily after Thanksgiving.
What is this great season? It is the Ascendant of the Mother Archetype Spirit that fills this season. Feminine Maternal feelings toward our origins permeate the Spirit of the Season. We remember our families, our old friends, our home towns, our parents, siblings, perhaps our High School, or College Alma Mater, and all things a loving mother would hold dear. For, this, my friends, is the Season where the Blessed Virgin prepares for the Birth of the Son of God. She and her powerful maternal feelings are Ascendant during this season. We feel this everywhere. We feel home and hearth. Our hearts turn home.
A Canadian colleague of mine and I were talking and I mentioned that most countries have some sort of beginning for the Advent Season, since I was telling my Mexican colleague that Mexico probably has some kickoff to Advent like we have Thanksgiving in the United States. The colleague from Toronto was of Indian origin and I explained that it was a season of expectation since we Christians are celebrating when the Blessed Mother was preparing for the birth of Jesus.
So, as we return to the home, whether in our hearts or on the land, we remember the Mother Spirit, and feel her feminine maternal passions for a season. We expect a birth. A Child will come we have expected. Children bring us hope because they are the future. Something grows within us. We must cultivate it until harvest season when we partake of the fruits of our Great Work!
